New Delhi, 11 June, 2015 (ISSME): Energy efficiency has become highly important now-a-days. With a view to save 20% of European Union’s (EU’s) primary energy consumption by 2020 and to make further improvements in this regard beyond 2020, the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) – a joint directive of the European Parliament and Council on Energy Efficiency that came into force on Nov 14, 2025 – has already introduced various measures across the EU.

Five years in advance of the scheduled time line, i.e. 2020, the mandatory energy assessments for non-SMEs, given at Article 8 of the EED, has been introduced now. This has necessitated large enterprises across all the sectors and industries for mandatory compliance of the same by December 2015 (and every four years thereafter).

As a result of this, small branches of a large enterprise group in a member state will have to conduct energy audit every four years to comply with the energy assessment obligations as they don’t fall within the ambit of SMEs. (ISSME)
